Channel 6 News

Marty started his career in broadcasting not on television, but on radio. In his 33 years at WJAC, Marty has covered everything from the '77 flood to the agonizing 77-hour mine rescue at Quecreek.

Many viewers can't remember a time when Marty wasn't a part of the Channel 6 News team. For more than three decades, he's been on the desk and in the field.

Since then, Marty has been a part of nearly every major story in our market and is often among the first to deliver the news to hundreds of thousands from atop the Alleghenies.

He covered the Flight 93 crash and conducted an exclusive death-row interview with Altoona native Darlie Routier, who was convicted of killing her two young sons. He also covered the murder trial of one of the most well-known criminals in Cambria County: Larry Christy, who was convicted of killing a night watchman in the 1980s.

Marty's career has spanned seven U.S. presidencies, and he even managed to stump former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge who once told Marty, "You ask a tough question."

After his heart attack, Marty turned a brush with death into potential life-saving heart health information. And in his three decades with WJAC, he has been at the forefront of what matters most to the people of the Alleghenies, such as surface mining and the closing of area steel mills.
